These tiny porcelain boxes are embellished with hand embroidered text taken from original love letters sent to the soldiers during the second world war. Further passages from the letters were used to make custom decals which are hidden within the boxes, along with the date the letter was written.
I wanted the lid of the box to be sewn with inconsequential passages from the letters - those everyday things that attempt to hide the fear of loss. The interior of the boxes however contain the messages of love and devotion so desperately needed by those at war.
Porcelain, custom decals, embroidery.
